Description
A sweet and smoky BBQ sausage sandwich made with juicy sausage, barbecue sauce, soft buns, coleslaw, pickles, and sautéed onions. Perfect for quick lunches or casual dinners.
Ingredients
1 lb Italian sausage
1 small onion, thinly sliced
1 cup barbecue sauce
1 tbsp olive oil
4 hamburger buns
Pickles, sliced
Prepared coleslaw
Instructions
1. Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat.
2. Add the sausages and cook for 10 to 12 minutes, turning occasionally, until browned and fully cooked.
3. Slice the sausages in halves or rounds if desired.
4. Pour in the barbecue sauce and simmer for 3 to 5 minutes.
5. Sauté the sliced onions until soft and lightly caramelized.
6. Lightly toast the hamburger buns.
7. Assemble the sandwiches with BBQ sausage, onions, coleslaw, and pickles.
8. Serve warm.
Notes
Chicken or turkey sausage can be used instead of Italian sausage.
Whole wheat buns work well for a lighter option.
Add cheddar cheese for extra richness.
Store leftover sausage in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
