Description
Ditch the boxed brownie mix and make these rich, chocolaty homemade brownies with a crackly top and a dense, fudgy center. Made with cocoa powder (no melted chocolate needed), they’re quick, easy, super moist, and loaded with chocolate chips.
Ingredients
1/2 cup unsalted butter
1/2 cup granulated sugar
1/2 cup dark brown sugar, packed
2 large eggs
1 tsp vanilla extract
1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
1/2 cup all-purpose flour
1/4 tsp baking soda
1/4 tsp salt
1/2 cup semisweet chocolate chips or chunks
Instructions
1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Line or grease an 8×8-inch pan.
2. Melt butter (if not already melted) and mix with granulated sugar and brown sugar until smooth.
3. Whisk in eggs one at a time, then mix in vanilla.
4. Stir in cocoa powder until fully combined.
5. Fold in flour, baking soda, and salt just until no dry streaks remain (don’t overmix).
6. Fold in chocolate chips or chunks.
7. Spread batter evenly in the pan.
8. Bake 20–25 minutes, until edges are set and a toothpick comes out with a few moist crumbs.
9. Cool completely before slicing for the fudgiest texture and clean cuts.
Notes
For extra fudgy brownies, bake on the lower end of the time range.
Let brownies cool fully before cutting to prevent crumbling.
Optional add-ins: 1/2 cup chopped walnuts or pecans.
Storage: airtight container at room temp up to 4 days; refrigerate up to 7 days; freeze up to 3 months.
